Wood, Resonance, and Detail: The Materials Behind Chinese Instruments
A great instrument begins with great material. The beauty and strength of Chinese traditional instruments lie in the deep relationship between wood and sound — a relationship shaped by centuries of craftsmanship.
At AUCNMUSIC, we pay close attention to the timbers used in every guqin, guzheng, erhu, and pipa. Whether it’s paulownia from Henan for a resonant guzheng, aged rosewood for a warm-sounding erhu, or red sandalwood for elegant structure, each species of wood is selected not only for durability, but for tonal character.
We work with suppliers who understand how to balance density and vibration, softness and strength. This material knowledge forms the soul of each instrument’s voice.
“You can feel the tone in the grain, even before the string is touched.”
Our goal is to preserve that soul — from the workshop floor to your hands.
